Nutrient Agar

Agar is a food for different bacteria and microorganisms. It looks much like jello. To use it, melt it just as you would wax, then pour it into petri dishes. It will then need to cool for 20 to 30 minutes to re-solidify before it can be used.

Many experiments today call for "sheep's blood agar." Sheep's blood agar becomes very putrid smelling after 2 to 3 days, and it will not grow much more than the agar we make and sell.

There are three reasons our agar is better:

circle01_black.gif It is already sterile; it has been cooked in a pressure cooker.

circle01_black.gif It is not only nutrient agar, but it also contains the most important part of sheep's blood agar. We leave out the blood for one

main reason, and that is the smell. A home becomes uninhabitable after three days with sheep's blood agar.

circle01_black.gif The price is better. Sheep's blood plates normally run in the medical community anywhere between $10 to $12 per plate. Our    agar costs less than $20 for 10prepared plates, and less than that if you prepare the plates yourself!
